The girls Cheer and Pom at the HAYAA Football games every Saturday. Generally half of the games will be "home" at the old Hartland HS, and the other half will be away. There are 11 groups in our league. They are: Brighton, Byron, Fowlerville, Hamburg, Hartland, Howell, Lakeland, Milford, South Lyon, Webberville, and Whitmore Lake, so some travel is involved.

The age group for the Cheer/Pom are normally split up as follows:

  • Instructional - 1st and 2nd grade
  • Freshman - 3rd and 4th grade
  • Junior Varsity - 5th and 6th grade
  • Varsity - 7th and 8th grade.  The Varsity girls may also "Tryout" for Pom and Competitive Cheerleading during the Basketball season through Ore Creek, which is seperate from HAYAA.  Please make sure you turn in a copy of your physical as you will need it again if you plan to play any sports at Ore Creek.  Any physical turned in to HAYAA and/or to any of the Coaches at Ore Creek are not returned to the family.

Game Times: Game time generally vary by age, and sometimes weather conditions. Normally the younger groups, Instructional, go first in the day, an approximate start time of 9:00 or 10:00 am. The Varsity level could start as early as 4:00 pm, and possibly as late as 9:00 pm. Games after dark are played with field lights on. Night games are normally rare but with the growth of participants in all the leagues they may become more frequent. Maps are available for all of the away fields.

Practices: Practices will begin in August. Normally 3 to 4 practices per week. Each practice may be 2 hours in length. Once school begins the number of practices will drop to 2 to 3 per week, with maybe an extra practice the week before Festival. Practices are mandatory as this is a team sport and many of the skills and routines learned require that the entire team be present.  Please discuss any conflicts you may have with your coach prior to the season starting. Most practices are outside, once the weather changes they sometimes move inside one of the school gyms.

Cheer/Pom Squads: The Cheer/Pom squad in Hartland are considered "Duo" squads.  Each team will prepare a Cheer routine and a  Pom routine for games which they will also prefect for our Cheer/Pom Invitational in October to be judged.

Invitational - Currently our Livingston County League hosts a Festival/Competition each year. The hosting of this event rotated among all the leagues in our group. This gives the girls an opportunity to bring their best performance and receive a metal. Hartland hosted this event in 2004 at the New Hartland High School. It generated a lot of fun and funds for our program.

Management of the Cheer/Pom Program: Our program is managed by an operating board consisting of: Head Commissioner, Blue Commissioner, Gold Commissioner White Commissioner, Black Commissioner, Secretary, Treasurer, Merchandise Manager and Equipment Manager. Other non-voting positions can be added to assist with current program needs. Elections can be held if more than one person would like a certain board position. Normally all applicants are accepted and placed in a position.

Volunteer Duties: Other Volunteers are needed to assisted with Merchandise Table, 50/50 Raffle, and Trash Pick Up on the Visitor side and under the visitor side bleachers at every home game. Each family is required to work at least three shift, or as many as needed to cover the game. Other areas of assistance would include: helping with our uniforms, special day events, retail and other miscellaneous projects. This program is operated totally with volunteers! So if you have the time please get involved.
